Thanks Tom, that's good to hear -- not long ago I heard a complaint that too many department websites rely on "staple" photos of cruisers and SWAT teams! I can't say I disagree and would love to see more creativity on more agency sites and blogs....

The APOA has had a revolving Flickr badge for quite some time on our blog and the Department has used many of the photos for website purposes and beyond. This is another great example of mindset changes for LE in the usual way of doing business. Use this avenue as a tool to put a good foot forward for your agency. Like any other Internet entry or post, use of photos requires a good dose of common sense and judgment!

Nice post Christa! And thanks for the idea...expect to see a photo or two associated with our tips when appropriate. : )

Thanks Greg! Those are great ideas, and that's what I liked about the Kenosha PD video -- it did show vehicle maintenance, paperwork associated with detectives' cases, etc.

Thanks too for inspiring this post. :)

I really like your idea of "Day in the Life Sets"

A day in the life set could also show that police work is much larger than patrol and feature some of the people and projects behind the scenes that make the patrol work happen - vehicle maintenance, training, dispatch, crime prevention programs, etc.

A photo stream using a Flickr account can make a great spoke for an agency's social media presence.
