Former NFL star Dennis Byrd, 50, killed in vehicle crash

A head-on collision Saturday on Oklahoma Highway 88 resulted in the death of ex-New York Jet Dennis Byrd, who passed away at the age of 50. According to cops, Byrd was dead on the scene and two people in the Explorer were sustained serious injuries.

His NFL career was cut short on November 29, 1992, when he suffered a broken neck during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Byrd played with the Jets from 1989-1992, until an on-field collision with a teammate left him paralyzed and unable to walk. The 17-year old driver in the other vehicle and a 12-year-old passenger were sent to the hospital in critical condition. He was considered one of the NFL's promising young defensive ends at the time of his injury, registering 28 sacks in his four seasons.

A former National Football League star was killed Saturday in two-vehicle crash in Rogers County.

However, Wenger said the club had only received "good news" as far as players returning fit from the worldwide break. Aaron Ramsey is set to return for Wales in their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Serbia in Cardiff on 12 November.

Former New York Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd died Saturday evening. The story was then turned into a made-for-TV movie. He went on to become a motivational speaker around the country, turning his tragedy into a positive influence on the world. Many Jets players credited Byrd's speech for helping motivate them to the victory. No one has worn No. 90 since Byrd - his number was retired in a 2012 ceremony. He also co-authored an autobiography titled "Rise and Walk: The Trial and Triumph of Dennis Byrd".

Byrd is survived by his wife, Angela Hales, and their four children.

Byrd was, quite simply, one of the most inspirational players in National Football League history, after his career was snatched away from him at age 26.
