Dylan Expresses Awe Over Nobel Prize, Alludes To Shakespeare

Two days after Bob Dylan missed the ceremony in which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, the singer announced he will play three Sweden shows on his European tour.

"I'm sorry I can't be with you in person, but please know that I am most definitely with you in spirit and honoured to be receiving such a prestigious prize", wrote Dylan in his opening statement. "I recognize that I am in very rare company, to say the least".

Bob Dylan sent a message on Saturday thanking the Swedish academy for awarding him the prize, an honor he believed was about as likely as "standing on the moon".

In his absence, fellow musician Patti Smith honoured Dylan with an emotional rendition of his legendary song, A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall.

Born Robert Allen Zimmerman and raised Jewish in Minnesota, Dylan, 75, wrote some of the most influential and well-known songs of the 1960s. "But it's my songs that are at the vital center of nearly everything I do".

Switzerland Votes to Hasten Plans to Abandon Nuclear Power
Deutschland has been sharply advancing its transition to renewable energy sources in time to exit nuclear energy by 2022 . "Voters do not want a hasty shut down of nuclear power plants", Leuthard said .

In a November 18 statement, the Swedish Academy said a possible performance in Stockholm during the spring would be a "perfect opportunity" to deliver the lecture.

Forgetting the lyric "I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin', Smith apologised and asked if she could start that section of the song again".

In a speech in front of about 1,500 guests, including the Swedish royal family, Horace Engdahl, a member of the Nobel Committee, called Dylan "a singer worthy of a place beside the Greek bards, beside Ovid, beside the Romantic visionaries, beside the kings and queens of the blues, beside the forgotten masters of brilliant standards". The lecture must be given within six months starting from December 10, and can be given at the place of Dylan's choosing.

"There is a chance that Bob Dylan. will have a flawless opportunity to deliver his lecture", the Swedish Academy said in November.
