Salvation Army kicks off bell-ringing season

During the holiday season, over 3 million families rely on The Salvation Army to provide them with a warm meal on Christmas Day or toys for their children.

Fortunately Issa came across the Salvation Army in Kalamazoo, which helped her get back on her feet and on a new path.

The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County is still hiring bell ringers for the 2016 Red Kettle Campaign season.

"This is his first year (to help with the campaign) in the United States", Hawkins-Okosun said. If the rain continues, the event will move to the Salvation Army Building No. 1 located at 633 North Broadway Avenue. Donations from the public are solicited at the kettles.

The Salvation Army is a vital organization in Southwest Florida and nationwide to help people during hardships, emergencies, natural disasters and more.

Tamayo said the same concept can be applied to local businesses and their employees. "But, the everyday guy, that's going out, guys, gals, and the families, and shopping, they're the ones that are putting in the nickels, dimes, and pennies and it's important that we get the nickels and dimes and pennies because that's what's saying what the community feels", said Beardsley.

The Salvation Army's Red Kettles are at 18 locations around Duluth and bell ringers are urgently needed to fill two hour shifts between 10 a-m and 8 p-m until December 24th.

That's when he saw a Hallmark movie about a man who was sentenced to community service and required to spend some of that time as a bell ringer for The Salvation Army. "Their goal is to raise as much as they can in an hour", she said. They just need helping hand up, you know.

The goal is for walkers to contribute at each kettle they pass. "But, people, they're so good. We live in a really good community". "I give to everybody because I've been blessed", said David Whitaker. "If it's cold, they'll come make sure I'm warm enough and make sure I'm OK".
