Senegal defends its UN Israel settlement vote

The resolution, which passed 14-0, condemns Israel for what it described as a "flagrant violation" of worldwide law.

Netanyahu said he spoke with US leaders, both Democrats and Republicans, who vowed to fight the move, including, he said, Israel's "friend" in the incoming administration.

It is the first resolution the Security Council has adopted on Israel and the Palestinians in almost eight years.

Numerous 90 comments railed against the USA vote in the Security Council, calling Shapiro, among other things, a "kapo" and "traitor".

Trump has signaled a possible change in USA policy by appointing one of his lawyers - a fundraiser for a major Israeli settlement - as Washington's new ambassador to Israel.

Power explained that Friday's resolution contained language condemning violence against Israelis, unlike a similar 2011 measure, which the United States vetoed on the grounds that it would harm Middle East peace talks.

Israeli settlers block the entrance to the the settlement outpost of Amona, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The US was the only nation to abstain from voting. Israel has no diplomatic ties with Malaysia and Venezuela.

The resolution demanded that Israel "immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem" and said the establishment of settlements by Israel had "no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under global law".

Charleston church shooting suspect's trial set to begin
The logo included his initials, a swastika, and an 88 - a number used by white supremacists that stands for "Heil Hitler". She could feel warm blood "flowing" from both sides. "I went to that church in Charleston and, uh, I did it", he said.

"We will do all it takes so Israel emerges unscathed from this shameful decision", Netanyahu said.

Israel "implored the White House not to go ahead and told them that if they did, we would have no choice but to reach out to President-elect Trump", the official said.

"That is why we can not in good conscience stand in the way of a resolution at the United Nations that makes clear that both sides must act now to preserve the possibility of peace", Kerry said.

The Obama administration has denied that Friday's vote breached any USA commitments to Israel, and said instead that it's in keeping with US support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The peace process has been long frozen, and a last attempt, led by the United States and supported by several global bodies, collapsed in 2014. "I instructed the foreign ministry to complete within a month a re-evaluation of all our contacts with the United Nations, including the Israeli funding of UN institutions and the presence of UN representatives in Israel", Netanyahu said on Saturday.

After the resolution was passed, Trump said that upon his inauguration, "things will be different" in US-UN relations.

In a statement on Friedman's selection, the Trump transition said he would work from Jerusalem, another signal of a shift in USA policy under the new administration.

"I wasn't surprised by the actions of the Americans or the United Nations, because they were never our friends", Regev said.
