Zola hired as Birmingham boss

A insane day at the Blues on Wednesday saw popular manager Gary Rowett sacked and replaced with the Italian in the space of less than six hours in the afternoon.

He was dismissed by West Ham in 2010 after an underwhelming spell in his first job as a manager. Trust me, Birmingham is not the only club who asked me my interest.

Seven hours after Rowett's departure, his successor, Gianfranco Zola was appointed, along with his backroom staff, on two-and-a-half-year contracts.

Amongst those surprised to see Rowett relieved from his duties in the Midlands was Leeds United boss Garry Monk, who stated he felt his promotion rival did not deserve to lose his job.

"I have been asked to improve the team, where it is possible to improve, from the good job that has been done so far".

Parker beats Ruiz to win WBO heavyweight title
Joseph Parker became New Zealand's first heavyweight champion after he won the WBO title after a points win over Andy Ruiz Jr. Ruiz came into the fight at 29-0 with 19 knockouts and was the more aggressive fighter throughout the 12-round contest.

Despite Birmingham City now occupying a respectable 7 place in the Championship table, the Blues inexplicably went on to dispense with the services of popular manager Gary Rowett recently.

"I will try to speak with Gary, this is not between me and him. I will give him a call and extend my sympathies in the situation". Part of the job that we do is going through this.

Cooper said: "I have got to be careful with what I say, with obviously Charlie being there, but you have to say it's a odd decision".

"I have done some good things in my previous jobs but some things have not been so good".

Zola, who introduced himself to a few senior players on Thursday, will take his first training session on Friday morning, with little more than 24 hours to prepare for the televised game against Brighton, the first of three matches in which he will assess his squad before the opening of the transfer window next month. "It's an opportunity for me to prove myself", he said. It looks to me like they have an ambitious plan for this club.
