Ryan Gosling says Debbie Reynolds inspired 'La La Land' cast

Debbie Reynolds' Hollywood legacy is incontrovertible, and it already lives on in La La Land.

The actor credited Reynolds" work in the 1952 musical Singin' in the Rain as an "inspiration" for La La Land "s elaborate dance sequences.

When Ryan Gosling took the stage Tuesday (January 3) at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, there was one person who couldn't hear his speech: Debbie Reynolds, who died last week just one day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher. She even had the neighborhood to thank for her big break.

Singin' In The Rain isn't just a classic movie; it was an incredibly important film in Reynolds's career.

Ryan added, "She was an inspiration to us every day". As her first lead role, Reynolds wasn't even a dancer when she was chosen to star opposite Gene Kelly in the musical.

In "La La Land", Gosling's character, a pianist, gets humiliated in front of Emma Stone while he is working a gig that forces him to play the keytar.

A source close to the family told ET on Monday that a family memorial for both actresses is planned for Thursday, Jan. 5, while Fisher's brother and Reynolds' son, Todd Fisher, revealed on Friday that he was planning a joint funeral.

Celebrities and people around the around have been mourning the loss of the two legendary entertainers.
