Trump says Chicago must seek federal help if no progress cutting murders

The Chicago Police Department says the city had 1,100 more shootings a year ago than in 2015.

Emanuel's office responded to Trump's tweet Monday, signaling a working relationship between the mayor and the president-elect. It's a theme the mayor talked about after his meeting with Trump Dec 7th at Trump Tower in New York City.

Trump, who frequently cited Chicago's violence during the presidential campaign, tweeted about The Windy City a day after the Chicago Police Department released year-end crime stats showing homicide numbers that dwarfed those of NY and Los Angeles combined.

Former Chicago Police Officer Dimitri Roberts said President-elect Donald Trump does not have a right to criticize Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for the city's homicide rate. And while they are not "record setting", The Chicago Tribune reports that homicides were up 60% from 2015 to the highest levels in 20 years.

Spain: More Than 1000 Migrants Attempt To Reach Ceuta
Over 1,000 migrants tried Sunday to climb the six-meter high fence of the Ceuta enclave in their attempt to join Europe. Guards first became suspicious of the woman when they witnessed her using luggage dolly with just one suitcase on top.

The FBI and the White House had no comment at the time of publication.

"We are heartened he is taking this issue seriously and look forward to working with the new administration on these important efforts", Collins added. While some indicate the drop may be partially responsible for the increase in violence, John Escalante, who was the police department's interim Superintendent at the time, said earlier this year he did not believe there was a direct correlation between the two.

The FBI is willing to offer its hand in helping to deal with the outbreak of violence in Chicago and President-elect Trump said he's willing to listen. "It is the investments we make in the neighborhood, it's the faith we have in the criminal justice system, it is the rank and file police officers, ' Emanuel said".

"I'm not impressed with Donald Trump leading from his Twitter account", he said. "We are counting on you - and I know, I know, I see the usual suspects out here, I know you all are top shelf police officers - I know that. that is why you are sitting here now", Johnson said. "The issue of public safety it's not just on you alone", Mayor Rahm Emanuel said during an event with the new detectives. "It can't continue the way it's going".
