Kim Jong-Nam complained of feeling 'dizzy' prior to death

Japanese journalist Yomi Koji, who authored "My Father, Kim Jong Il, and I", said Kim Jong Nam considered "helping" his half-brother rule North Korea but changed his mind after he realized he had been "neglected" by the regime.

One year before his half-brother's accession to North Korea's leadership after Kim Jong-il's December 2011 death, Kim Jong-nam had told Japan's Asahi that he opposed "dynastic succession". "The clinic staff, after assessing his condition, sought the assistance of the nearby Putrajaya Hospital", he told the New Straits Times.

The North Korean leader's brother was rushed to a local hospital but died on the way, according to reports.

Kim Jong-nam had been living overseas for years after apparently falling out of favor with his father for attempting to enter Japan on a fake passport in 2001.

He was believed to have been living recently in Macau, Singapore and Malaysia.

Kim Jong-nam died en route to hospital from Kuala Lumpur worldwide airport on Monday, police said, adding that they had not yet confirmed the cause of death.

The two women, believed to be North Korean agents, remain at large, TV Chosun reported, citing multiple South Korean government sources.

Another suspect named in the case, Chris Estrada, was "steadfast in his claims" that he and Fabian were innocent of any crime. Verk had been missing since October 12, when she stopped answering text messages or phone calls.

The suspect and another woman fled from the scene, Mat said. Jong-nam's death comes two days before Kim Jong-il's birthday anniversary, which is on Thursday.

The same year, Kim Han Sol sat down with former Finnish member of parliament Elisabeth Rehn to discuss his life and his unusual family for a televised interview. His uncle and regent, Jang Sung Taek, was publicly purged and executed in 2013 after the young leader believed he had become too powerful. North Korea is now locked in showdowns with the West and its allies over its nuclear program and ballistic missile tests, but faces possible strains with its key patron China.

Kim Jong Nam's first cousin and childhood playmate, a defector, was shot outside his home in South Korea in 1997. He had been living overseas without holding any official position.

Although there was scant evidence that Kim Jong Nam was plotting against the North Korean leader, he provided an alternative for North Koreans who would want to depose his brother. One of the things that Kim Jong Nam may have been anxious about is that Kim Jong Un in 2013 ordered the execution of his own uncle.

Officials said that Kim's half-brother frequently spent time away from North Korea, and so he held little sway over the nation's politics.
