Man Utd vs Southampton: Key battles in the EFL Cup final

Mourinho also spoke passionately about the extraordinary sacking of Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, who left the club on Thursday less than a year after leading them to the title.

Now Ibrahimovic has won a major trophy in a fifth country after honours in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

The oft-maligned midweek competition - historically regarded as inferior to the world-famous FA Cup - is mostly used as an opportunity to field fringe players or give academy prospects a first run-out in the team.

The 3-2 victory delivered Ibrahimovic his 32nd major trophy in professional football and, he says, each one is getting sweeter with age. But the United manager has seen Ibrahimovic leave him before.

One gauge of where United are under Mourinho is found in the league performance so far. Now they aim to repeat that upset by winning the League Cup in their first appearance in the final since 1979.

Arsenal great Patrick Viera had once said that the mark of a good team is when they win a match despite not being the better side in those 90 minutes. He scored in the Community Shield last year, the FA Cup last year, and tonight in the EFL Cup final.

United manager Mourinho was impressed with the way England forward Rooney handled rumours of a possible lucrative move to the Chinese Super League. "I came to win and I'm winning". The defeat was in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final at Hull City's KCOM Stadium. Southampton also came back being 2-0 down against United.

Adam Levine unveils Hollywood Walk of Fame star
Levine was also joined by his Maroon 5 bandmates and fellow "The Voice" judges, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, at the ceremony. The 4-month-old tot braved the debut of Levine's Hollywood Walk of Fame star wearing a knit cap and black cardigan.

"But I think it is more important the club than myself and I have so many good things in my career that I wouldn't be influenced by a little detail".

That leaves Southampton reliant on a shutout, which looks hard to achieve against United.

Ibrahimovic's dramatic late victor took his goals tally to 20 in the past 22 games and 26 in total this season as the Swede once again rode to his team's rescue and responded by declaring himself the Special One.

Tottenham are rated strong favourites at home to Stoke but it might pay to be wary of them after their Europa League exit on Thursday night.

"Ooh Gabbiadini", chimed their fans as they went for a victor, with Mourinho angry on the touchline as his side struggled.

Mourinho has been keen to play down suggestions that Shaw, who became the most expensive teenager in history when he joined the Old Trafford club for £27 million in 2014, could leave in the summer. Let's try to win another one this season.
