Peter Capaldi Almost Stayed On 'Doctor Who'

New Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall has spoken for the first time about the primary challenge he faces when replacing Peter Capaldi in the titular role.

Ladbrokes spokeswoman Jessica Bridge said: "Whovian punters are becoming increasingly convinced the next Doctor will be female, and fingers are now pointing towards Swinton".

Peter Capaldi announced he's leaving Doctor Who, we're all still reeling from the vaccuum his departure will create.

Michelle Gomez, who plays Missy in the show, Captain America star Hayley Atwell and Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington are among those fans have said they would like to see in the role. "I think it would be great [to have a female Doctor] given the spirit of the world at the moment".

A parade of diverse individuals, including women wearing Muslim hijabs , joined the performers on stage. Q-Tip then closed the performance with a simple, but potent message: " Resist! ".

There are also two men in the runnings with Kris Marshall the male favourite (4/1) - after he stepped down as the co-lead in Death in Paradise while Ben Whishaw is also a contender with odds of 10/1. No wait, Tilda Swinton is in the running for the next Doctor! It was the only time doing "Doctor Who" where I felt it was slipping away from me a bit. "I'm sure I'll miss it for the rest of my life", Moffat said, "and reminisce to very bored people about how I used to be something, I used to matter, then sob on their shoulder and get kicked out the pub".

Another former Doctor Who actor, Matt Smith, is also reportedly interested in reprising the role, and comedian Richard Ayoade is also considered one of the favourites.

The 46-year-old television writer will take over from current show runner Steven Moffatt at the beginning of 2018 once Capaldi makes his final appearance as the time-travelling scientist in the Christmas special later this year. This'll be the end for me. It's a fantastic program to work on and it's been a huge pleasure to work with a family, really. I've never worked the same job for three years, and I feel like now is the right time to move on.
