Police say Fabian refused to answer questions about the last night Verk was seen, and he and a friend, Chris Estrada, were acting odd in the days after her disappearance. Another suspect named in the case, Chris Estrada, was "steadfast in his claims" that he and Fabian were innocent of any crime.

Officers said they are confident the body found Friday is Zuzu Verk.

The Alpine Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It's unclear if the search is in connection with the remains that were found in a shallow grave near Sunny Glen Canyon, just north of the City of Alpine.

Earlier in the investigation, he told police that Verk left his home about 3am on October 12, The Post reports.

"She reflects who this community is", her mother said. "The remains will [be] sent off for identification".

LIVE! will continue to provide updates when available. "There was a lot of vegetation where this grave is", he said in a press conference.

The biggest question for law enforcement at this time is, "Why was she killed?"

The remains were identified via dental records at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Scientists, a crime lab in Dallas County.

The family of Zuzu Renee Verk had been holding out hope that she would be found alive.

Verk's family arrived in town following the discovery and held a prayer vigil for their daughter Sunday. "Zuzu has been a bright light in our lives".

Verk had been missing since October 12, when she stopped answering text messages or phone calls. The complete affidavit was released Monday morning. Fierro had no further details on the site or the remains.
