Car Crashes Into High School Marching Band During Alabama Mardi Gras Parade

This morning, a vehicle drove into a crowd of people at a Mardi Gras Day parade on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, just days after a similar incident occurred in New Orleans.

Video footage of the scene showed multiple ambulances people on stretchers.

Twelve students were injured after an SUV drove into a marching band preparing to take part in a Mardi Gras parade Tuesday morning in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Sources tell News Five that the driver was an elderly man.

Riley said in a news release that police are seeking the public's help in identifying the person so he or she can be questioned. They are of the two missing girls that went hiking Monday afternoon and never returned.

The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, and is the last day before the beginning of Lent - the 40 day period of fasting and repentance which leads up to Easter. The scene in Gulf Shores has turned from carnival revelry to an emergency response. You can also watch live on the WKRG Facebook page.
