Go Down Moses For 5th - 6th graders because some pitches are below the staff and hit the low D note

This song is a minor piece in duple meter. I would use this song when teaching my students about Hariet Tubman and replace the lyrics to describe her trial and tribulations as a woman who strived to be part of the Civil Rights movement for African Americans. The original song would be from the spiritual and hymn genre.

Three Little Muffins Chant

This chant would be suitable for PreK-K children. The lyrics are simple, easily memorized and have sections for role play.

This song would be good to teach children about the different kind of voices you use when you are whispering, singing, talking, asking a question , Surprised, and upset. This activity would suit young preschool children.

Five Little Pumpkins Chant

This chant would be great for Pre-K - K children. The vocabulary is simple and the lyrics are straightforward.

This chant involves a lot of movement. I would incorporate Laban's space element and have the kids run in a straight line when the lyrics cue them, and then roll out of sight in a curved and indirect manner. Incorporating these locomotor elements not only makes this activity fun, but also builds their vocabulary about movement terms and reinforces counting.

Peer Listening List

America The Beautiful

This range is good for 2nd and 3rd graders because it has pitches in the low D & E range.

This piece is an American traditional song in duple meter and has a strophic-form. It has a number of stanzas set to the same music. I could use this song and integrate it with social studies by teaching the song to kids to help them learn the different regions of America and where America is geographically ("... From sea to shining sea = from the Atlantic to Pacific) The Hunting We Will Go
