The Angel Project: Nina Hilt

Nina Victoria Hilt

October 11, 2002 - July 2, 2005

Nina Victoria Hilt was born on October 11, 2002 in Russia. She was adopted by Peggy Sue and Christopher Hilt when she was sixteen months old. She had a sister, Nataliya, who had been adopted from Ukraine. She was four years old at the time Nina passed away. Nina first met her adoptive parents when she was six months old. She was in an orphanage and had a cold at the time, so they were unable to spend much time with her at first. They went back ten months later to adopt her. Her father, Chris, claims that when he held her, he knew she was his daughter.

At that time the doctors presented the abortion as an option, but the couple decided to continue the pregnancy. Blessed be the name of the Lord! Princess Victoria will see you in heaven.

Nina had already begun learning Russian words when she was adopted, but her new parents spoke English. She communicated a lot by motions like pointing. She also often showed her emotions. It was usually pretty obvious to know how Nina was feeling. Nina had a deep connection with her father, Chris, but her relationship with Peggy was a bit strained at times. She loved her older sister, Nataliya, but they got in typical sibling quarrels. She often copied her older sister, and sometimes even bit her!

In July of 2005, Nina and her family were visiting with relatives when Peggy became upset with Nina and began beating her. Nina stopped breathing and Peggy called 911 the next day. First responders arrived and did everything they could for Nina. They rushed her to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Nina had passed away due to child abuse.

Nina's official cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen. In court, Peggy attempted to give a statement. She said "I'm sorry she does not even come close ..." but then began mumbling and her lawyer took over the statement for her. Her lawyer claimed that Peggy was battling depression and alcoholism. It was said that she hid these issues from her husband, and also hid the fact that she was not bonding with Nina. Peggy plead guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison.
