Aaron Hernandez Found Dead - Former NFL Player Hangs Himself In Prison

The principle also came into play in the case of John Geoghan, the priest convicted of sex abuse, who was murdered by a fellow inmate while imprisoned at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center, the same prison where Hernandez killed himself Wednesday.

He was rushed to the hospital at 3:05 a.m., but was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. They said he used a bed sheet that was tied his cell window. Hernandez tried to block the cell door from the inside by jamming it with various items, Fallon said.

SHIRLEY, Mass. (AP) — The Massachusetts maximum security prison where Aaron Hernandez apparently hanged himself has seen its share of troubles since it opened almost two decades ago.

Last week, Hernandez was acquitted in the 2012 drive-by shootings of two men in Boston.

Others emphasized that he was a convicted murderer who deserved no pity.

His death comes on the day members of his former team visit President Donald Trump at the White House to be commended for their Super Bowl victory over Atlanta in February.

Authorities opened an investigation into the death.

The team dropped Hernandez just hours after his arrest and nine days after Lloyd was found dead.

By the end of his second season, he was a bona fide star, landing the $40 million contract extension and playing a key role in the Patriots' 2011 AFC Championship season.

Lloyd's body was found with six bullet wounds less than a mile from Hernandez's home. The former Patriots fourth-round pick was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

After that, Hernandez supposedly descended into darkness, allegedly keeping company with troublemakers in Bristol, Connecticut and smoking marijuana.

Aaron Hernandez's apparent suicide has an inmate advocacy group calling for more mental health services in MA prisons.

He had been charged with eight crimes in total, including three counts of armed assault and was found guilty of possession of a weapon.

It has also been reported that Hernandez was questioned by police in 2007, following the shooting of two men after a University of Florida football game that the Gators lost.

"Team spokesman Stacey James said the Patriots were aware of the reports of Aaron's death but didn't anticipate the club commenting Wednesday", according to The Associated Press. "Today my heart hurts as I got the worse news I could have imagined".

As Hernandez waited last week during jury deliberations, he waved and blew kisses to his daughter in the courtroom.
