Father of missing teen says she was brainwashed

The information appeared in a just-released criminal complaint in the case of Tad Cummins, 50, and his former student Elizabeth Thomas, who disappeared on March 13 and were found Thursday.

The ten Thomas kids even helped her out on a farm down the road from their home with chores.

"It was a very traumatic experience for her", Sgt. Behr Tharsing, of the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, told reporters.

Health sciences teacher Tad Cummins surrendered to sheriff's deputies without incident in Cecilville, California, hours after they had set up surveillance on his vehicle in the area, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

"I think we all need to be held responsible for our actions and if he was doing this to help her he did it incorrectly", said Boand.

Thomas was also found safe and unharmed, authorities said. Elizabeth exited the cabin behind Cummins and was taken into Federal Bureau of Investigation custody in Redding, California, authorities said. I was taken aback by who she is. You know, that kind of clues people in.

"There aren't words in the English language to describe the level of relief and elation experienced by the Thomas family", said Jason Whatley, attorney for the family.

Prior to her rescue, Elizabeth was last seen March 13. If convicted of the federal charge, he faces at least 10 years in prison, acting U.S. Attorney Jack Smith said.

On Thursday, the typically stoic Manning said the accusations "definitely make [him] angry" and denied the validity of the claims. "I have done nothing wrong", Manning said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced Thursday at a press conference that a tip led them to the safe capture of the alleged kidnapper and his unharmed abductee, almost 2,500 miles from their hometown in Columbia, Tennessee.

Federal authorities transferred Cummins to Sacramento. When Cummins went outside, investigators were there to arrest him, O'Hare said. He was dismissed from the school after being initially suspended when police began investigating him for sexual contact with a minor.

Hotel companies alerted authorities that the two had checked in to motels in Oklahoma City and Guymon, Oklahoma, but they were gone by the time police got the tips, the complaint says.

The two became the subject of a nationwide search after he apparently lured the girl into his auto outside a restaurant in Columbia, Tennessee, about 45 miles south of Nashville.

A 50-year-old Tennessee teacher, accused of kidnapping his teenage student, is under arrest after more than five weeks on the run.

Jill Cummins had already filed for divorce, saying she felt betrayed by her husband. Two loaded handguns were recovered at the cabin, along with personal items belonging to the pair. Authorities had said they had been living there for about a week-and-a-half.

An FBI spokesperson said at the press conference when Thomas arrives home to Maury County, they are going to give her time to get reacquainted with her family and friends and offer counseling or therapy if she needs it.
