Firmino grabs another winner, Liverpool beats West Brom 1-0

Despite their struggles, the Baggies began brightly and Hal Robson-Kanu directed Matt Phillips' effort wide but Liverpool gradually took control and almost went ahead after 15 minutes. "I hope you're not surprised", Liverpool's manager said, when asked about his reaction at the final whistle. "It's really three very important points at a hard place and that's improved our base for the rest of the season, so I'm happy about this". I really thought that the boys, in a really hard game, did really well. Against West Brom. And kept a clean sheet. They have failed to score in four consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since 2003.

"It's missed chances. We've had the opportunities again and especially against the top teams you have to take your chances", said Pulis.

"My one disappointment about our performance was the first 20 minutes of the second half". They scored bang on half-time with a goal that we're disappointed with because we think (Craig) Dawson was fouled.

However, the Pens scored twice in the second period and both teams traded goals in the third period to force overtime. Connor McDavid scored his first playoff goal in the third, also shorthanded, to put the Oilers up for the duration.

It came from a setpiece, with a free kick being headed on by Lucas Leiva before Firmino headed in his 11th goal of the campaign. Liverpool's Roberto Firmino, right, celebrates with teammate Philippe Coutinho after scoring his side's first goal during their English Premier League soccer match against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns, West Bromwich, Eng.

Liverpool have 66 points from 33 games, although they have played one more game than Manchester City who sit two points adrift in fourth.

The visitors were the stronger team after the restart and saw Divock Origi bend a shot wide on 55 minutes, before an unmarked Milner blazed over the bar a few moments later after being found at the far post by Firmino. Then came that late Phillips opportunity for Albion, when Mignolet spread himself and stuck out a boot to block a shot that Pulis felt should have ended in the back of the Liverpool net.
