USA 'not looking for fight' with North Korea

The video follows a military parade Saturday, in which North Korea presented three different ICBM models.

On Wednesday Vice President Mike Pence told an audience of 2,500 US and Japanese military personnel on the flight of the USS Ronald Reagan that "storm clouds" are gathering on the horizon.

Tensions have escalated over North Korean moves to accelerate its arms programs, including developing an intercontinental ballistic missile that could reach the United States. "But we're going to redouble our efforts to bring diplomatic and economic pressure to bear on North Korea".

The US Defense Department has been considering military options against North Korea for more than a month in case President Donald Trump decides to take action, a defense official was quoted as saying Tuesday.

Sin also said six-nation talks aiming to make the Korean Peninsula free of nuclear weapons were "throttled at birth". She said members are working on a statement responding to the latest North Korean missile launch that failed.

Russian Federation wanted to include language contained in a previous statement stressing the need to achieve a solution through dialogue, according to council diplomats.

The disagreement with Russian Federation over the stronger language came ahead of a Security Council ministerial meeting next week on North Korea that will be chaired by US Secretary of States Rex Tillerson.

A concept paper circulated to council members ahead of the meeting states that North Korea's "pursuit of weapons of mass destruction represents one of the gravest threats to worldwide peace and security the Security Council faces".

"We believe that it is absolutely essential... that everybody is involved in order to make sure that everything is done so that the threat represented by the development in relation to missiles and in relation to nuclear capability - not become a threat to the global community", said Guterres.

It says the meeting will give council members an opportunity to discuss ways to maximize the impact of existing United Nations sanctions "and show their resolve to respond to further provocations with significant new measures".
