BMW 8 Series Teaser Confirms Long-Awaited Return Of The Fabled Name

The new BMW 5-Series will launch on 29th June this year and the company dealers have started accepting booking for the luxury sedan at a token amount of Rs 2 lakh to 3 lakh.

My test auto was fitted with the M Sport kit, which I feel every potential buyer of this model should try and stretch their budget to.

The upcoming 8 Series certainly has big shoes to fill - and not just as a viable competitor to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe.

If the looks of the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe are anything to go by, we are in for a treat.

Also, BMW still has a two-door 6 Series Convertible as well as the four-door 6 Series Grand Coupe and performance-oriented Alpina B6, not to mention a smaller, less premium 4 Series coupe.

The BMW 8 Series, when it was launched, was a unique model in the vehicle manufacturer's line-up. An instrument panel with a new, distinctive contrasting seam, an instrument cluster with upgraded features as well as the new sports steering wheel, the padding and surface of which ensure excellent feel and grip, provide for a classy and sportive ambience. BMW asserts that the concept will "embody uncompromising dynamics and contemporary luxury in true essence of a modern BMW coupe".

BMW has confirmed it is bringing back the 8-Series badge. And the choice of light-alloy wheels has also been expanded – to 17 designs in 16-, 17- and 18-inch formats.

Most of the 4 Series range can be had with BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system which will give a driver confidence when the road turns wintry, without softening the classic rear wheel drive appeal that BMW plays on so strongly. An M8 is rumoured to be on the cards, featuring a twin-turbo V8. Sophisticated suspension technology, a low centre of gravity, a wide track and nearly flawless 50:50 weight distribution all play their part in the BMW 2 Series outstanding dynamics and handling properties.
