Crohn's disease (regional enteritis, granulomatous ileitis, ileocolitis) is a chronic inflammation of the intestinal wall.

The disease typically affects the entire thickness of the intestinal wall. It is most commonly manifested in the lower portion of the small intestine (ileum) and the large intestine, but may occur in any segment of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus, including the skin around it. > In recent decades, the incidence of Crohn's disease has increased in both Western and developing countries.

  • It occurs approximately equally in both sexes,
  • Most of the cases appear before the age of 30
  • Years, but most begin between the ages of 14 and 24.
