Kasper Schmeichel Reportedly on Manchester United Radar to Replace David De Gea

The Leicester goalkeeper has emerged as United's number one target to replace David De Gea if the Spaniard joins Real Madrid in the summer.

Manchester United lead Manchester City in the race to sign former City academy player, Kasper Schmeichel, according to Sky Sports.

Schmeichel came through the Manchester City youth programme and had loan spells at Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Cardiff City, Coventry City and Notts County before moving to Leeds and then Leicester.

However, they are buoyed by De Gea's decision to stay at United last summer and see no reason why he should not make the same choice this time around.

The 30-year-old signed a five-year deal with the Foxes last summer, but United are hopeful of securing his services in the summer.

De Gea has a natural pull towards Madrid given he grew up there and his girlfriend also resides from the Spanish capital.

Schmeichel has ditched his agent Kenny Shepherd to team up with Italian representative Luca Bascherini, who is believed to be well connected at Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to go head-to-head with Manchester City rival Pep Guardiola over Kasper Schmeichel.
