North Korea Claims Plot Reveals US State-Sponsored Terrorism

Three experts downplayed a threat Tuesday from North Korea's ambassador to the United Kingdom of another nuclear test by the isolated nation and the destruction of USA strategic assets.

At least 16 United States citizens have been detained in North Korea in the past ten years.

Korea studies professor Stephan Haggard of the University of California San Diego described these two recent arrests as "classic asymmetric warfare", to Time magazine, with North Korea "nabbing" American citizens in response to pressure against its nuclear and missile programs.

Her counterpart is Suzanne DiMaggio, director and senior fellow at a Washington D.C. -based think tank and former official in the Obama administration, said Yonhap News Agency of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

"If you decide to enter North Korea against the advice of this Travel Warning, you should have no expectation of privacy".

Hardly there is information available on Kim Jong-un's nuclear arsenal, other than what North Korean controlled media has released on it.

North Korea on Friday accused the US and South Korean spy agencies of an unsuccessful assassination attempt on leader Kim Jong Un involving biochemical weapons.

But Malaysian officials at the time banned the team from playing in Pyongyang, citing security fears, and the AFC chose to postpone the tie due to "escalating diplomatic tension".

"When a USA citizen is reported to be detained in North Korea, we work with the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang, which serves as the United States' Protecting Power in North Korea", a spokesperson from the State Department said to CNN.

While a travel warning already was in effect for U.S. nationals, the State Department offered a more detailed statement about the pitfalls of heading to North Korea.

Citing unidentified diplomatic sources, the Japanese newspaper wrote that in return for North Korea foreswearing its nuclear and missile technologies, the US promised it "would not seek regime change, regime collapse or an accelerated reunification of the Korean Peninsula, nor would it look for an excuse to advance north of the 38th parallel, the de facto inter-Korean border".

"It's my understanding that dialogue between North Korean government officials and USA civilian experts opened today (Monday) in a suburb of Oslo and will continue through tomorrow", a source here said.

Song now lives in South Korea and has called on world leaders to free citizens in the North.

In the case of Kim Hak-song, authorities said, "A relevant institution is now conducting detailed investigation into his crimes".
