Rain chances ramp up, a cool blast of air moves in

Expect showers to develop tonight with breezy conditions and lows in the upper 50s and low 60s. It will still be windy Saturday with SW winds at 10 to 20 and gusts to 30 miles per hour.

Low pressure will move in tonight bringing clouds to the area.

Low temperatures Sunday night and Monday night could get into the 30s.

The overall forecast for the first weekend of May is cool. All eyes on the smaller rivers and streams, they may see a rapid rise Friday evening.

Radar shows the big mass of overnight rain moving out of the state early this morning, but additional showers and thunderstorms will form today ahead of a surface cold front moving in from the west.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy. Chance for showers late day. Friday will be cloudy with periods of light rain and a strong breeze! Scattered showers will be possible for each day with snow levels expected to drop to around 5,000 Sunday morning, allowing for a few snow showers across mountain passes.

AccuWeather says 1-2 inches of rain is likely from western Virginia to the southern New England coast and across the Great Lakes. (I'll call it "partly sunny".) Sunday's high temperatures will be limited to the lower 60s. Rain may become heavy at times in the afternoon and early evening, which will lead to a slow-down in travel and ponding on roads. Expect temperatures to remain cool, with readings in the middle to upper 50s. In fact, this April was the 4 warmest on record and records date back more than 110 years!

Tomorrow: Partly Sunny, Scattered Showers (30%), Windy.

Gusty winds will accompany this system and a Wind Advisory remains in effect for the mountains through Thursday night.

A complex weather system is poised to invade the WBTV news area later today, throwing rain down on many for the commute home.
