Trump says Flynn's actions during presidential transition were 'lawful'

Former FBI director James Comey told Congress in June that before he was sacked by Mr Trump in May, the President asked him to drop the part of the Russian Federation investigation that related to Mr Flynn.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly criticized how the F.B.I. handled the Clinton email investigation, saying that Mrs. Clinton should have been charged.

Former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, Dan Pfeiffer‏, tweeted, "If Trump keeps admitting to obstructing justice, Ty Cobb might be right that the Mueller investigation may wrap up sooner than we think".

Immediately Twitter users across the board pointed to the tweet as "Exhibit A" of an obstruction of justice charge Robert Mueller should use to charge Trump during his Russian Federation collusion probe.

The court documents provide the clearest picture yet of coordination between Flynn and other Trump advisers in contacting Russian officials to influence global policy, and raise questions about who higher up the chain of command in Trump's orbit -possibly even including the president himself- is in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's sights after he agreed to a plea deal with the retired general.

Flynn was charged on Thursday with one count of lying about his private discussions with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador, regarding U.S. sanctions being imposed on Moscow by the government of then president Barack Obama.

In at least one instance, prosecutors say Flynn was directed by a "very senior member" of the presidential transition team to discuss a United Nations resolution on whether to condemn Israel's building of settlements.

Flynn resigned from his post February 13 and Comey testified before Senate Intelligence Committee that in a February 14 meeting in the White House - just a day after Flynn had left - Trump asked him to drop the investigation. He is a good guy.

"No I'm not", Trump said in his first public remarks on the plea deal. It seems he's feeling smug about the turn of events at the White House.

To his credit, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation has already cost taxpayers over $5 million, shuffled Strzok off to the Siberian bowels of the FBI's human resources department. Strzok played a key role in the FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, the papers said.

As acting attorney general at the end of the Obama administration, Yates and another Justice Department official went to the White House on January 26 to warn White House counsel Don McGahn that Flynn was potentially compromised and vulnerable to blackmail because of discrepancies between the public accounting of the Kislyak conversation and what actually occurred. At about 2 a.m., Mr. Strzok wrote an email to Mr. Comey and scheduled it to send at 6 a.m. If today's tweet is true, he then lied to Comey to get him to drop an investigation, knowing full well Flynn had lied to the FBI. "We're unbeatable", Trump said.

Vladeck added: "I can't speak to how the special counsel would view this statement, but it betrays an alarming lack of understanding of the relevant legal rules on the President's part, or of the serious legal jeopardy he could be in for actions he may wrongly believe are appropriate".
